Meet the parents is an African Movie Academy Movie award-winning short film written, directed and produced by Lonzo Nzekwe. It is based on the Meet the Parents song by Jay Z.
It follows the life of a man Michael and an event that further alters the course of his life when he meets his son on a bridge after years of refusing to acknowledge him.
It is an action-packed drama that resonates beyond cliché associated with an action film based on a black man in a very black neighbourhood. It’s a family tale of love, survival, regret and forgiveness that can be found in any part of the world.
My interest in the film grew after watching the trailer but I was afraid to get my hopes up. I didn’t want to be disappointed but I finally did and it was worth the watch. There is a reason it won best short film at the “African Oscars”
Since the movie came out some time ago, it is no longer in the cinemas. However, you can watch it on IronFlix a video streaming platform for movies. The first month is free but you have to pay $5 a month for subsequent months.
